Silk eyelash extensions, mink eyelashes, or synthetic fiber eyelash extensions—what's the difference? Confusion reigns among eye beauty technicians. Don't panic, we're here! At Ange & Cils, we're committed to providing the greatest transparency . That's why we've dedicated a full article to silk eyelash extensions and other types. Our mission here is to shed light on the misconceptions about natural fiber extensions.

The Truth About Silk Eyelash Extensions

To begin with, the term "silk eyelash extensions" is a misnomer in the industry. While many brands market their extensions as 100% silk, they are actually made from a synthetic fiber . The term "silk" is much more marketable and has a luxurious connotation.

In truth, pure silk is too soft a material that cannot hold its curl . To create a silk effect, extension manufacturers coat the polyester fiber with a shiny solution . For the mink effect treated below, they apply a mattifying solution.

Mink hair or mink lash

Mink hair is all the rage in the eye beauty industry . It's particularly popular in Russia, where Siberian mink is found, which has high-quality fur. Mink hair is said to offer a more natural look than synthetic eyelash extensions. Its porosity allows the glue to adhere better.

However, while real mink hair extensions do exist, most of the products you'll find are also made of synthetic fiber . It's also important to note that the vast majority of "silk" and "mink" eyelash extensions are made of the same material: a plastic fiber called PBT (Polybutylene terephthalate ). The difference lies in the shape and thickness. For example, mink eyelashes have a thick appearance, while silk extensions would be thinner.

Many customers have asked us the following question: " When I wear contact lenses, isn't it more recommended to wear natural hair extensions? "

The answer is no , because clients who wear contact lenses must first remove them before having extensions fitted. The fact that extensions are made of natural hair is not a good alternative, on the contrary, because they are more allergenic and therefore more at risk. Therefore, prefer a sterile synthetic extension .

The disadvantages of natural hair extensions

First of all, it is quite difficult to find a reliable supplier on the market. The hair must be of exceptional quality and each strand identical. There is currently no official quality control . The prices of real mink hair extensions are therefore very high.

Next, this type of natural hair extension is far from being as perfect as synthetic eyelashes.

In addition, their curl does not last over time and they tend to curl at the slightest change in temperature. Real mink extensions can go up to the maximum C curve . In fact, you cannot control the curve on natural hair, and especially the curve would not be durable after passing under water or heat.

Finally, mink extensions are more likely to cause allergies in customers. They also carry pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and even fungi. The manufacturing process for synthetic extensions, which requires sterilization through a high-temperature machine, would therefore not be possible on mink hair, as it risks destroying it.

Korean made eyelash extensions

Did you know? Eyelash extensions were born in Korea , not in Russia as you might think. Korea is the world's epicenter for eyelash extensions . Korean women have been using them for years to enlarge their eyes. It's no surprise, then, that the country is number one in terms of production quality for eye beauty products.

Unlike other Asian countries that mass produce eyelashes, Korea pays special attention to meeting European standards.

The extensions used at Ange & Cils are produced in Korea. They are made of polyester fibers, sterilized and without any additive lotion .

Vegan & Cruelty-Free Eyelash Extensions

Since its inception, Ange & Cils has been committed to offering products and formulas that are good for the planet and animals, as well as safe for its customers. That's why our eyelash extensions are all made from synthetic fiber. This also ensures longer-lasting wear.

None of our formulas are made from animal material.

Finally, all liquid products are not tested on animals . These include the glue, the cleansing foam, and the lash & brow lift formulas.

You finally know the truth about silk, mink, and PBT eyelash extensions. Now you can choose your type of extension with complete confidence.

Don't delay in making an appointment at the Ange & Cils beauty salon , specializing in eyelash and eyebrow beautification, located in Arnouville-lès-Mantes in Yvelines (78).
